Advent Resources

What is Advent?

Advent begins the fourth Sunday before Christmas and goes through Christmas Eve.

As followers of Jesus, we are living in between two advents—the two comings of Jesus. The first was Jesus coming as a baby into the world, living in human form. During his life on earth, he humbled himself by being fully obedient to God, even when that caused his death on a cross, all for the sake of our forgiveness and abundant life. And one day Jesus will come again, bringing with him all the fullness of the Kingdom of God. Our hearts long with hope for the beauty, wonder, and peace of this day.

We set apart the season of Advent both to remember the first coming of Jesus and to anticipate the second coming.

If you come into this season weary and tired, remember that Jesus tells us, “Come to me, all of you who are weary... and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:28-30).  This season can be so incredibly busy. Take some intentional time to slow down, draw near to Jesus, and receive his peace in this holiday season.
